Ms.Saraswathi
Ms.Saraswathi was born and raised in Dindal, Erode District, in a modest family. Due to financial constraints, she could not continue her education and began working at a local textile unit. Her married life was short-lived, as unresolved emotional and behavioural challenges led to misunderstandings within the family.
With limited awareness and strong superstitious beliefs, her family struggled to understand her situation. Over time, Saraswathi was treated as a burden and was eventually abandoned at a temple. Left without food, shelter, or safety, she lived near the Perundurai highway until Atchayam Trust was alerted by the public.
When our team met her, Saraswathi had walked across a busy road to buy an ice-cream from a bakery and offered it to our staff with warmth and affection, showing her natural kindness despite the hardships she faced. Recognising her need for care and support, Atchayam Trust brought her to the shelter, providing a safe environment, guidance, and emotional support.
With time and encouragement, Saraswathi rediscovered her strengths and became actively involved in daily activities, helping in the kitchen, maintaining cleanliness, and supporting other residents.
Today, Saraswathi serves as a compassionate caretaker at Atchayam Trust, looking after residents with care and dedication, showing how patience and human connection can help rebuild a life once abandoned.
